Naples knocks Milan down and is second again

Napoli are second again, behind Inter’s back, thanks to a narrowly beaten win at San Siro, against Milan. The match didn’t offer a show worthy of two teams dominating Serie A until a few weeks ago, but it would have been rare otherwise. Each set had to give up several key men. The Rossoneri could not count on Kjaer, Theo, Calabria, Leao and Rebic. Spalletti, meanwhile, is still without Koulibaly, Mario Rui, Fabián, Insigne and Osimhen.

The decisive goal came after just five minutes of play, thanks to a perfect corner kick by Zielinski that found Elmas, author of the 0-1 goal, in the heart of the area. From there, the opponents exchanged control of the game several times, and both showed lack of aim above. Brahim and Ibrahimovic did not have their best night, and in the other area Lozano and Petagna worked well in the defensive phase, but they disappeared at the time of finishing the play well.

In the second half the visitors lost steam and the Rossoneri grew, but without giving Ospina too much work. After a couple of attempts by Ibrahimovic, the key move came in the 90th minute, when Kessié put the draw together, finishing with a powerful shot from a scrum in the area.
The referee, however, annulled the goal after having reviewed the VAR images for an offside by Giroud, that, according to his interpretation, being on the ground hindered Juan Jesus. The decision gave the victory to the Southerners, who interrupted their losing streak (two defeats in a row) and returned to second place.
