Nairo Quintana retires? This week he will announce his future

The future of Nairo Quintana remains unknown, After the director of Team Corratec ruled out his signing, the rider would have made the decision to retire and would announce it next Wednesday, January 25 in the country’s capital. Without the option of signing for a World Tour team, the Colombian would only have chances of reaching a Pro Tour or Continental team. Team Medellín recently offered him the option of joining the squad that also signed Miguel Ángel López.

According to the Youtube channel ‘Ciclismo en Grande’, Nairo Quintana would retire from professional cycling. With more than 50 victories in his career, a Vuelta a España and a Giro d’Italia, the rider who will turn 33 on February 4 has not been able to find a team for the season. His last competition was in the Road World Championship that was held in September of the previous year after he was penalized by the Tour de France for the alleged use of tramadol.

2022 did not end well for Nairo, after the sanction he received from the UCI, the broker appealed the decision before the TAS and the decision did not favor him. At that time, the Colombian had already been left without a team after Arkéa announced that he would not continue, despite the fact that they had renewed the contract.

Nairo and the option of Team Corratec

Nairo in December had stated that he already had a team to run in 2023, but I still wouldn’t make the name known until I had everything finalized. In the last days the option of Team Corratec appeared, but the negotiation finally did not take place. This Wednesday it will be known first-hand what will happen to his future.

I prefer not to talk about this story. It has become too big and we cannot take Nairo with us. I’m sorry, this was something big that we don’t know anything about, so you have to talk to his representative,” said Serge Parsani, the Italian team’s sporting director.
