From great champion to great champion. The sports world surrenders to Carlos Alcaraz after winning the Mutua Madrid Openhis fourth title this year 2022 after winning in Rio de Janeiro, the Masters 1,000 in Miami and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
Alcaraz’s victory has twice the merit if one takes into account that in the quarterfinals he had to beat Rafa Nadal (it was the Balearic’s first tournament after his rib injury), Novak Djokovic in the semifinals after an agonizing match, and Alexander Zverev in the final which he had not yet been able to defeat.
Precisely one of his rivals, Rafa Nadal, was one of the first to congratulate Alcaraz on his great victory in Madrid. The Spaniard, who is already training for the Masters 1,000 in Rome, published a post on his Instagram account with this message: “Congratulations Carlos !!!!! What a great tournament. Great triumph !!!” A whole show of sportsmanship and at the same time a celebration for the great health enjoyed by Spanish tennis.
Nadal and Alcaraz will not meet this week at the Masters 1,000 in Rome, since the Murcian will give up the tournament to regain strength after his titanic effort in Madrid, so the next time they can see each other in a major tournament will be at Roland claws (May 22 – June 5), with a Nadal who already hopes to be in top form and with an Alcaraz who will face a Grand Slam for the first time as the great favorite. The draw for the Roland Garros draw will determine in which round they could reissue a duel that Spanish and world tennis yearn to see again.
