Investigation Ongoing in Canelones Shooting Incident
A tragic incident occurred in Canelones, resulting in the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man. The events unfolded near Villa El Tato, adjacent to Mirador de la Tahona, on Route 101.
Law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene in response to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying on the ground and immediately transported him to a nearby medical facility.
The Victim’s Background and Injuries
Unfortunately, the severity of the man’s injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed to his wounds. According to local authorities, the victim had a history of run-ins with the law, including a 2016 conviction for drug trafficking and a 2018 homicide charge.
Circumstances Surrounding the Shooting
The shooting occurred late on Wednesday night, around midnight. Scientific Police experts were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Initial reports indicate that the 42-year-old man was allegedly in the process of robbing an abandoned house when the incident occurred. The case is currently under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office.
This incident coincidentally occurred simultaneously with another homicide in Montevideo, which took place in the Prado rose garden. The victim in this separate case was a 21-year-old man, with a history of violent behavior, having been previously involved in a Christmas-time altercation at the same location.
