The Presidential Inauguration Ceremony
12:00 noon marks the moment when Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. Following a series of events over the weekend, Trump returns to Washington D.C. to assume his new role.
A Weekend of Key Events
On Saturday, Trump met with family members, allies, and prominent figures from the tech world, including Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia. Later that night, he traveled to the nation’s capital, where he spent the night.
Arlington National Cemetery and the “Victory Rally”
On Sunday morning, Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery. The highlight of his weekend, however, was the “victory rally” at the Capital One Arena stadium in Washington D.C. The stadium, with a capacity of about 20,000 people, was filled with Trump supporters from across the country who braved the cold to hear their leader’s words.
The event featured notable figures, including Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, and billionaire businessman Elon Musk. Other guests included Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Anuel AA and wrestling star Hulk Hogan. The rally aimed to emphasize Trump’s “Make America Great Again” motto, as seen in his speech, his first major address in the capital since the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol.
Travel to Washington D.C. and Tradition
Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania and son Barron, left his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida on Saturday morning, flying to Washington D.C. on a US C-32 military aircraft, courtesy of the current administration, as per tradition.
Faithful to diplomatic customs, Joe Biden has allowed the Trump family to use the aircraft, a courtesy not extended to Biden by Trump in 2021.
Executive Orders and Other Actions
Trump’s administration has announced that he will implement several executive orders and actions on fundamental issues in the country. On Saturday, Trump revealed plans to “very likely” grant an extension allowing Tik Tok to continue operating in the US.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump also stated that mass deportations of immigrants would begin “very soon and very quickly.” His appointed Border Czar, Tom Homan, confirmed that arrests could start as early as Tuesday with a large-scale operation in Chicago.
