Myanmar News: India on Thursday expressed deep concern over the hanging of four pro-democracy activists by Myanmar’s military government and said the rule of law and democratic process should be upheld in the country (Myanmar). Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, “We have expressed our deep concern over these incidents in Myanmar. Bagchi was responding to a media query on the subject during the weekly press conference. On Monday, Myanmar’s military government announced the execution of four activists accused of engaging in “terrorist acts” against the regime. At the same time, on a question related to the proposed visit of a Chinese vessel to Hambantota port in Sri Lanka next month, Bagchi said, “We are aware of the reports of this vessel’s proposed visit to Hambantota in August. The government is closely monitoring any developments affecting India’s security and economic interests and will take all necessary measures.” It also reiterated its commitment to assist in their “tough times”.
The conference, held on 25 and 26 July, was attended by around 20 countries and aimed to promote stability and security in the war-torn country.
