Veteran music emperor Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on Tuesday. He breathed his last at the age of 55. Ustad Rashid Khan was suffering from prostate cancer and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. He had to be ventilated and given oxygen. Despite the doctors' best efforts, he could not be saved.
An official at the hospital where Ustad Rashid Khan was treated said, “We tried a lot but failed.” He died around 3:45 p.m.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her condolences on the death of Ustad Rashid Khan. He said: “This is a great loss for the whole country and the entire music world.” I am very sad. I still can't believe Rashid Khan is no more.

Ustad Rashid Khan's health deteriorated significantly after he suffered a brain attack last month. He was initially treated at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. He later decided to continue his treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. According to close sources, his condition recovered after he was admitted to a private hospital last month.
Rashid Khan was born in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh and was the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. He received his initial training from his maternal grandfather, Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan (1909-1993). Rashid Khan was a singer of Ustad Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He gave his first stage appearance at the age of 11.
Ustad Rashid Khan had graced the band of 'Aaoge Jab Tum' with his voice for Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor's film 'Jab We Met' which became very popular. Furthermore, he had spread the magic of his voice in films like My Name is Khan, Raaz 3, Manto and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana.
