A goal in added time from Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi prevented Greece’s triumph in Pristina and gave Kosovo a point (1-1), which leaves both teams away from Qatar 2022. Muriqi’s goal deprived the Hellenic team of their first qualifying victory and of prolonging the calculations to maintain the illusion of reaching the World Cup.
Greece has three draws in a row. It equaled against Spain and Georgia. Now also against Kosovo. The Greek team assumes the status of favorites of Spain and Sweden in the race to Qatar. Unable to beat Kosovo, much of its chances have been left behind.
Greece failed to hold onto the advantage they gained in added time in the first half when a great pass into space from Anastasios Bakasetas was used by Utrecht striker Anastasios Douvikas to break their balance after beating Arijanet Muric.
Dutch John Van’t Schip’s selection as Kosovo grew up speculated on the outcome. Thus, with the match nearing completion, Muriqi beat Odisseas Vlachodimos after receiving a pass from Florent Hadergionaj.
