Munawar Faruqui Slams Meerut Police Order on Eid Prayers

Munawar Faruqui, a comedian and winner of Big Boss 17, has spoken out against a recent order issued by the Meerut police. The order warns Muslims not to offer Eid prayers on public roads, threatening legal action, including cancellation of passports and driving licenses, against those who violate it.

Munawar, known for commenting on social and political issues, shared a screenshot of the news on Instagram. He expressed his disappointment, writing, “Is this really what we’ve been reduced to? Will we no longer be able to celebrate any festivals on India’s streets?” His post quickly caught people’s attention, with many netizens echoing his concerns and criticizing the order as discriminatory.

This isn’t the first time Munawar has found himself in the midst of controversy surrounding religious sentiments. Just a few days ago, his comedy show “Haftha Vasuli” faced severe criticism from viewers, who accused him of using offensive language and promoting obscenity. The show, which tackles trending political and cultural issues with humor, was criticized by some, with a few even calling for it to be banned.

Munawar has had run-ins with the law in the past as well. In 2021, he was arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a stand-up performance and spent over a month in jail before being granted bail.

The comedian recently shared a post on Instagram, talking about his experience of performing Umrah with his wife, Mehjabeen Kotwal. He posted a picture from the holy site, captioning it, “The most beautiful place in the world, Makkah. May Allah call everyone here. And I have prayed for all of you, remember me in your prayers too.”
