Mumbai-Punjab Qualifier: Cut-Off Time Set Amid Rain Threat

The rain played spoiler on Sunday, June 1, as the second qualifier match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings was threatened by a downpour. Although the toss took place on time, with Punjab Kings opting to bowl first, the real concern was the weather. This crucial match is being held at a stadium in Ahmedabad.

New Rules

Before the playoffs began, the BCCI introduced some new rules, including an extension of the cut-off time. But what does this mean for the match? To get a result, both teams must face at least five overs each. If the rain doesn’t clear up, the cut-off time for calling off the match is 11:56 PM.

If the 5-over match starts before 11:56 PM, efforts will be made to complete it. Previously, the cut-off time for canceling a match was 10:56 PM. Remember when the IPL 2025 tournament resumed on May 17? The RCB vs KKR match was canceled due to rain at 10:23 PM, before the cut-off time.

What’s at Stake

So, what happens if the 5-over match can’t start before 11:56 PM? Which team will make it to the final? Since there’s no reserve day for the Qualifier 2 match, Punjab Kings will advance to the final if the match is canceled due to rain, thanks to their better position in the points table. The IPL 2025 final is scheduled for June 3, with RCB already securing their spot.
