Mumbai Indians defeat RCB by 4 wickets, Harmanpreet’s half-century shines

In the seventh match of the Women’s Premier League 2025, Mumbai Indians handed Royal Challengers Bangalore their first defeat, winning by 4 wickets and halting RCB’s winning streak. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s victory, scoring a half-century with 50 runs. Amanjot Kaur also made significant contributions, ensuring Mumbai’s win with an unbeaten 34 runs.

The match, which went down to the wire, saw RCB set a target of 167 runs while batting first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Despite a shaky start, RCB managed to post a respectable score, thanks largely to Alice Perry’s impressive 81 runs off 43 balls, which included 11 fours and 2 sixes. This performance brings Perry within 32 runs of becoming the highest run-scorer in WPL history, and marked her sixth half-century in the league.

RCB missed the opportunity to secure a hat-trick of victories. The tide of the match turned in Mumbai’s favor with Amanjot Kaur’s entry in the sixth order. Chasing 168, Mumbai found themselves in a precarious position, having lost 4 wickets at a score of 82. However, a crucial 62-run partnership between Harmanpreet and Amanjot steered the team towards victory. Although Harmanpreet was dismissed at 50, Amanjot remained unbeaten, scoring 34 runs and guiding her team to a win. Following this match, RCB, with 2 wins in 3 matches, retains the top spot in the points table, while Mumbai moves into second place.
