According to Smith, Dhoni once switched hotels mid-tournament because the staff at his initial accommodation refused to let a food delivery in. This wasn’t the only time Dhoni lost his cool, as Smith recounts another instance where Dhoni’s frustration boiled over after a dropped catch.
A Rare Display of Frustration
The first incident Smith talks about involves R Ashwin dropping a catch. Dhoni, visibly upset, moved Ashwin from the slips to a different position. Smith had never seen Dhoni so angry before. “It was an easy catch, and after that, Dhoni removed Ashwin from the slips and placed him elsewhere,” Smith recalled.
The second incident involved a dispute with hotel staff. “The hotel staff wouldn’t allow a food delivery inside, and Dhoni got furious,” Smith said. As a result, Dhoni decided to shift to a different hotel. While Smith can’t recall the name of the hotel, he remembers the incident clearly.
