Ecuadorian Cyclist Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda Joins Movistar Team, Eyes Victory at O Gran Camiño

Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda has emerged as one of the key signings for the Movistar Team this season. The 28-year-old Ecuadorian cyclist joined Movistar after amicably terminating his contract with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA—a move made easier thanks to a pre-existing agreement with the previous team’s owners for a mutually beneficial transition when a larger opportunity arose.

Cepeda expressed his excitement about joining the prestigious WorldTour-level team during the O Gran Camiño event, where he has already positioned himself as one of the team’s leaders and a strong favorite for overall victory. “It has been a very important step to sign with Movistar for my sports career. I hope to make an important leap in this team,” he said.

Reflecting on his smooth move, Cepeda noted, “We have a great team. We have started with a good streak, and we hope to continue like this. I feel that the team has given me confidence. I am in good shape, and I want to take it day by day to see how far I can go.”

Future Objectives and Team Dynamics

Looking ahead, Cepeda’s calendar is clear. After beginning the season with a national gold medal, he competed in Valencia and later in Galicia. He is expected to target races such as the Tyrrhenian and the Tour of Italy—major objectives for a cyclist under the guidance of Miguel Unzué until 2026. Cepeda aims to follow in the footsteps of successful Latin American riders like Egan Bernal and Nairo Quintana, believing that Latin American cyclists, in general, are well-equipped to contend for top honors.

For now, Cepeda is focused on maintaining the momentum of the Movistar Team. While he remains cautious about emerging projects like the Super League, his primary goal is clear: to win. Given his strong current form and the robust support of his team, a victory in Galicia wouldn’t be surprising.

With a positive attitude and a solid team backing him, Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda is ready to take on the challenges of the cycling world.
