Movistar Confirms Nelson Oliveira Extension, Deal Could Last Until 2027

Nelson Oliveira is 36 years old

Nelson Oliveira is sticking with Movistar. His current contract with the team ends this year. But a fresh deal means he’ll stay put for at least another season. There’s even a chance for a two-year extension, keeping him with the Spanish squad until 2027. This move ensures a reliable, experienced rider remains with the World Tour outfit.

The 36-year-old Portuguese cyclist brings a lot to the table. The 2025 season will mark his tenth year racing for Movistar. He first joined them back in 2016. Before that, he spent two seasons with Lampre-Mérida. Oliveira truly broke into the sport’s global elite in 2011, making his mark with RadioShack. His long career shows a consistent presence at the highest level.

Right now, Oliveira is focused on recovery. He’s healing from a right-hand injury. He picked up the injury at the Hamburg Classic in mid-August. But don’t count him out yet. He’s already preparing for his return to competition. His comeback race will be at the European Championships in France. He plans to compete only in the time trial event there, scheduled for October 1st. It shows his dedication to getting back in form quickly.
