Motorola Edge 70: Ultra-Thin Design, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Powers iPhone Air Rival

Motorola is gearing up to launch a sleek new premium smartphone. It’s called the Moto X70 Air in China, where teasers began appearing last week. Reports say this device will hit global markets as the Edge 70.

The company has started promoting the Edge 70, highlighting its incredibly thin design. Tech tipster Evan Blass, known as @evleaks on X, shared a video teaser. This video shows off a phone body that will be less than 6 millimeters thick.

This design makes the Motorola Edge 70 a direct challenger. It aims at other super-thin flagship phones already out there. These include the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which measures 5.8 millimeters thin. The iPhone Air is even slimmer at 5.6 millimeters. It also stacks up against thin mid-range options like the Tecno Spark Slim (5.9 mm) and Tecno Pova Slim (6.0 mm).

The teaser video gives us a full view of the Motorola Edge 70. It will come in three different color shades. Motorola worked with Pantone, a company famous for its color standards, to develop these.

Inside, the Edge 70 is expected to run on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. Qualcomm also launched this premium chip alongside their top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip uses advanced 3-nanometer technology. It packs Oryon CPU cores that hit speeds up to 3.83 GHz. The Elite version goes even faster, reaching 4.60 GHz.

Qualcomm states that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 features a new Adreno GPU. This graphics chip brings higher speeds for visuals. It also includes a new NPU, or Neural Processing Unit. This unit makes AI tasks much quicker and more capable.

Earlier leaks suggest the Motorola Edge 70 will have a 50-megapixel main camera. This camera comes with OIS, which stands for Optical Image Stabilization. It also has a 120-degree ultrawide camera for big group shots. For sound, expect stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

The Motorola Edge 70 should launch around the same time as the Moto X70 Air. The X70 Air is confirmed to debut in China by the end of October 2025.
