MotoGP: Marc Márquez shines in first Thailand training session

The MotoGP World Cup 2025 is already underway, and Marc Márquez is commanding attention. In Buriram, Thailand, he led the first free training session, monopolizing all eyes and living up to expectations. As the reigning champion, Jorge Martín, is out due to fractures in his left hand, and his replacement, Lorenzo Savadori, is set to take his place.

The heat was intense, even in the early morning hours, with temperatures reaching 31 degrees in the environment and 41 on the asphalt. Despite these conditions, Márquez started strong, using a hard rubber in front and a half behind, but quickly took the lead. He has always been known for his ability to go out and go fast from the start. Marco Bezzecchi, with the Aprilia, was his closest competitor, followed by Álex Márquez, Quartararo with the Yamaha, and the two Honda officials, who put in a surprising performance.

Maverick Viñales had a tough start, experiencing technical problems that forced him to make an early stop. He was able to return to the track after his team made the necessary adjustments. Pecco Bagnaia, on the other hand, struggled with the soft tire in front, making mistakes in curves 3 and 5, and expressing his frustration. Márquez also complained about the way his bike handled when entering curves.

As the session came to a close, Márquez chose to continue with used compounds, yet still managed to put in impressive times. His partner, Álex Márquez, pushed hard but continued to struggle with escapes. No one could match Márquez’s pace, but Morbidelli made a step forward with the hard tire, showing the GP24’s potential. Quartararo confirmed that Buriram suits him, and Yamaha has made progress. Jack Miller, with the M1 of the Pramac team, also endorsed this.

Moto3 and Moto2

In Moto3, Yamanaka took the lead, followed by Rueda, Bertelle, Lunetta, and Almansa. Álvaro Carpe, in his debut, had the unfortunate distinction of being the first to fall in 2025, but luckily, he escaped without consequences. Furusato also crashed. Adrián Fernández finished 10th, Piqueras 11th, Carpe 12th, and David Muñoz 14th, who had a technical problem and didn’t get to ride much. Joel Esteban finished 20th, Marcos Uriarte 23rd, and Cruces 26th.

In Moto2, Manu González dominated, setting a new track record. He beat Öncü, Moreira, Arbolino, and Dixon. Izan Guevara finished seventh, Canet ninth after a slight fall, and Alonso López eleventh, ahead of Arenas. Ramírez finished 15th, Holgado 17th, Huertas 20th, Ortolá 21st, Navarro 22nd, and Escrig 27th. Óscar Gutiérrez replaced Sergio García Dols, who is injured.
