Moreirense Celebrates 87th Anniversary: Past with Gratitude, Future with Confidence

Portuguese football club Moreirense marked its 87th anniversary this Saturday, with its president reaffirming the club’s commitment to identity and values despite its professional football section recently falling under the majority control of a U.S. investment fund.

This anniversary is the first since Black Knight Football Club, a U.S. fund, acquired a majority stake in the club’s Sociedade Anónima Desportiva (SAD), which manages its professional football operations.

Vítor Magalhães, who continues to lead the overall club, emphasized the importance of maintaining Moreirense’s unique character.

“We remain committed to strengthening Moreirense Futebol Clube, maintaining its identity and the values that have always distinguished it,” Magalhães stated in a message addressed to club members.

He expressed pride in the club’s nearly nine-decade history, describing it as a narrative “made of passion, dedication and perseverance.” This history, he noted, reflects the spirit of the club’s town and the people who helped build it.

Magalhães highlighted the club’s journey, which involved overcoming many challenges and achieving victories both on and off the field. He credited every season, player, director, and fan for contributing to the club’s ascent in Portuguese football.

“Today, we look to the past with gratitude and to the future with confidence,” he added, reinforcing the commitment to the club’s ongoing development.

He extended gratitude to all members, fans, employees, players, coaches, and partners. These individuals, he said, make the continuous growth of the club possible through their work and dedication.

Magalhães concluded by expressing his hope that the 87th anniversary would serve as “another milestone of unity and hope,” reaffirming everyone’s commitment to elevating the club’s name even higher.
