The Ministry of Labor (MT) has a digital platform that serves as a link between people who are looking for a job and companies that have vacancies available. As of yesterday afternoon, there were 11,796 companies and 618,080 candidates registered in the system.
The available jobs cover various sectors: services, hotels, commerce, administration, manufacturing, food, industry, tourism, health, automotive, construction, energy, gastronomy and education.
Upon reviewing each of the published vacancies, we were able to verify that most are for traditional jobs, such as receptionists, secretaries, cashiers, drivers, waiters, concierges, messengers, deliveries, accountants, etc.
Only in the educational area there are some particular positions such as special education teachers in English or Bible teacher and in the health sector there is only one vacancy for a doctor of chiropractic.
It should be noted that almost all jobs posted in the education category, primary and secondary, require teachers with English language proficiency.
Where are there more jobs?
Most of the published vacancies are in the hotel, services and commerce sector. There are categories, such as energy and tourism, where there was, until yesterday, no position available.
salaries
Regarding salaries, it was observed that the majority range between RD$25,000 and RD$35,000, but there are positions of receptionists, cashiers, delivery men, gondoliers, butchers and others that offer between RD$10,000, D$15,000 and RD$20,000.
The best paid jobs are found in the health and education sectors, where they pay more than RD$45,000. In other areas there are some exceptions, such as a statistics manager, whose remuneration is between RD$35,000 and RD$45,000.
better jobs
Studies published by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) establish that the best quality and best paid jobs will be found in the areas of health and education.
However, it is necessary to point out that since the pandemic, the world trend is oriented towards jobs linked to technology, digitization and occupations that allow remote work and give workers greater flexibility.
About the platform
The platform allows job search in many other categories and candidates can select the province and municipality where they are looking for work. Part of the objectives of this system is to facilitate the hiring of employees and help job seekers to find a suitable position and trade.
With this initiative, the Ministry of Labor also seeks to reduce the costs of hiring workers and promote formalized hiring.
looking for a job
Due to the pandemic, many people in the country lost their jobs and despite the economic reactivation they still have not recovered it. That is why many people are currently looking for work.
This is evidenced in the Bulletin of Official Monetary Poverty Statistics in the Dominican Republic 2021 published by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd) and the National Statistics Office (ONE), which establishes that between 2020 and 2021 the amount of unemployed people went from 273,922 to 362,954, for an increase of 89,032.
