More than 800 horsemen already confirmed for the Parade of the Butterflies

More than 800 horsemen have already participated in the Parade of the Mirabal Sisters Butterflies 2022, for non-violence against women, an event scheduled to be held on Saturday June 4 from 9:00 in the morning, departing from the Mirabal Sisters Museum , in the municipality of Salcedo.

Details of the traditional activity were offered this Wednesday by Linabel González, vice president of the Organizing Committee and director of the Office for the Development of Women, during a press conference that took place in the James Rodríguez room, of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation ( Miderec).

Accompanied by the Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Sports, Franklin de la Mota, González reported that the traditional event will begin with the registration of participants, followed by typical music and a toast, to give way to an exhibition of Paso Fino horses. Subsequently, the cavalcade route will be made along the established route, different from last year’s.

He explained that this version is dedicated to the Ministry of Women and three women horsemen, who have always supported the classic recreational activity.

“The Organizing Committee decided to hold our event this year in honor of Fabiola Alonzo, from Río San Juan; María Alejandra Laureano, who since she was a little girl has been participating in the activity on behalf of Hato Mayor; as well as Altagracia Herrera, mayor of Monte Plata and an outstanding horsewoman in our country”, González explained.

She stressed that the parade is dedicated to the Ministry of Women, a government institution that has waged a great struggle and effort against violence against Dominican women, in addition to promoting gender equality.

He recalled that the parade is held every year, on the first Saturday of June, to enjoy a route of history, steeped in culture and nature.

“The route of this cavalcade will be full of adventure and emotion for non-violence against women,” said González. “It will be varied in relation to the previous version and we will be playing fun routes, trails, rivers and ecological trails in our municipality.”
