More people with disabilities are employed, reaching 516,000 in 2020

The number of people with disabilities who have employment in Spain It reached the figure of 516,000 in 2020, which is the highest figure in this regard since 2014, according to the study carried out by the Randstad Foundation, together with Randstad Research.

This document has analyzed the labor market for this group according to the latest data available and its evolution over the past seven years.

Through these figures they have determined that the employment of people with disabilities "slowly growing over the years" and it has done so between 2014 and 2020, the year in which 30,000 new jobs were created.

In the seven years analyzed by the study, employed persons with disabilities have grown by 31% (122,000 people), while the number of unemployed has been decreasing since 2014 to stand at 147,600 unemployed people in 2020. The unemployment rate has also been decreasing reaching 22%, ten points less than in 2014.

In total, according to the report, in Spain in 2020 there were 3.2 million people with disabilities according to figures published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), distributed almost equally between men and women. The work also reveals that 41% of this group presents a degree of disability between 33% and 45% and that osteoarticular, intellectual and chronic disability is present in 63% of this group.


The Randstad Foundation has also highlighted that the population with disabilities of working age is close to 2 million people. As he points out, in 2020 there was a growth of 56,000 people (3%), the second most important growth since 2014. He also points out that, in the last seven years, people with disabilities between 16 and 64 years old have grown by 11% and represent 6.3% of the total population.

Even so, the study denounces that the presence of people with disabilities in the labor market "is too short" and that "only 34% are active" (663,000 people). "However, the cumulative growth of active people with disabilities since 2014 has been 13%, says the study, which also determines that the other 66% of people with disabilities, "are inactive for various reasons such as permanent disability or retirement".

Regarding the training of people with disabilities, the foundation has indicated that the activity rate of people with higher education (54%) is almost 20 points higher than people with disabilities with intermediate studies and 38 points higher than those who They don’t have studies.

Likewise, it has indicated that the employment rate of people with disabilities with higher education is the highest since 2014 (47%) and higher than people with disabilities with lower levels of education.
