Morbidelli leads MotoGP test in Sepang after calm second day

The second day of MotoGP testing in Sepang was much quieter than the first day. The three injured riders, Jorge Martín, Raúl Fernández, and Fabio Di Giannantonio, are no longer at the circuit and have flown to Europe to undergo surgery for their fractures. Two testers who participated in the ‘Shakedown’ a few days ago, Lorenzo Savadori and Michele Pirro, have replaced Martín and Di Giannantonio in their respective teams.

In the absence of the champion, Aprilia’s plan is to try a new configuration for the motorcycle with Savadori. Marco Bezzecchi will continue to ride for the team, and according to CEO Massimo Rivola, he must take on more responsibility due to the absences and the fact that Ai Ogura is a rookie.

There were two minor incidents during the morning session. Pedro Acosta crashed in turn 5, but he was able to continue without any problems. Later, Pecco Bagnaia had an incident in the last turn, but he also escaped without physical consequences, although his Ducati GP25 required repairs.

The teams are conducting various tests, including aerodynamic trials. For example, the Sling team, led by new technical boss Romano Albesiano, has introduced ideas from Aprilia, including more accentuated ducts to pass air internally. Yamaha has added small wings to its fairing, while KTM has modified its rear design, following the trend to cut the hill. Franco Morbidelli, who is comfortable with the Ducati GP24, is currently leading the test, with Quartararo still ahead.
