Montevideo Shopping Evacuated After Bomb Threats, Cleared to Reopen Saturday Night

Emergency responders sprang into action Saturday night, evacuating Montevideo Shopping after staff called 911 about two bomb threats.

Authorities confirmed with News Agency that the shopping center’s reception team got two calls threatening a bomb, triggering the emergency evacuation protocol.

At 7:57 PM, the 911 command center got two bomb threat calls about Montevideo Shopping. Firefighters from the Centro Cordón detachment rushed to the scene with fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and ambulances. They worked with shopping center staff and police to evacuate the area.

People were kept out of the shopping center for over an hour. Then, after a thorough inspection, firefighters gave the all-clear.

Back to Normal

By 9 PM, services were restored, and the shopping center reopened. A statement from the firefighters said, “After checking the entire premises and finding no explosive devices, we handed the area back to the shopping center staff, and the public was allowed in again.”
