The reasons I consider the long sword the best weapon are simple: it has huge damage output for its speed, it’s relatively easy to find optimal combos, it has a powerful parry, and there are ways to execute attacks in a nearly infinite way. It’s not the weapon that does the most damage or the fastest, but it has very high values. Plus, it’s one of the most balanced and easy-to-use weapons, so it’s quite simple to get a lot of performance out of it in a short time.
The bow, on the other hand, has shown me tremendous potential. Although it’s a bit more complicated to use – since you need to know how to position yourself and it’s crucial to aim quickly – it has brutal damage. When used well, it’s one of the most effective and safest weapons in the game.
Tier List with all the weapons of Monster Hunter Wilds
If you had to organize the weapons into a Tier List according to their combat potential, here’s how I’d differentiate them:
S Tier: By a small margin, I’d say there are two weapons that stand out above all the others: the long sword (both individual and group) and the bow (especially in a group). They’re the two that have offered the best performance at all times.

A Tier: Below the top two, but above the rest, is the heavy crossbow. It’s the only weapon I’d place in this tier because it’s the only one that’s approaching the top two.

B Tier: A step below the heavy crossbow, we find a good number of weapons. Some may be even better in very specific situations, but in general, they offer worse performance and a lower constant damage ratio.

B+ Tier: Although it seems weird to divide the Tier List into B+ and B, giving the rest of the weapons a lower rating seems unfair, as they are still able to offer good performance. The hunting horn is particular because it’s the best support weapon, but there are many cases where it doesn’t compensate, as you’d earn more damage by going with a better weapon than offering buffs to allies.
