The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD) will launch today at 9:00 in the morning the Official Statistics Bulletin of Monetary Poverty 2022, in which the monetary (income) poverty of the Dominican population, with a new methodology.
Minister Pável Isa Contreras, along with Rosa Cañete, also an economist from Mepyd, reported during a visit to director Miguel Franjul that the new poverty measurement methodology improves the situation of deficiencies and responds to an update of the basic family basket that was had and was based on the income and consumption of 2007 and now establishes “a rod” from 2016 to 2022. Isa Contreras and Cañete indicated that this new measurement includes expenses that were not computed before, such as the weight of spending on telecommunications and other items, as well as the contribution made by the State through transfers or the PAE (State Aid Program) in families, income from remittances. In addition, the gender issue is transparent. A stratification by four macrozones was also included, that is, the East Zone, North Zone, South and Greater Santo Domingo.
