Monaco GP: Hamilton Penalized for Blocking Verstappen in Qualifying

Monaco Grand Prix drama unfolded during qualifying as Lewis Hamilton found himself in hot water. He blocked Max Verstappen’s path, and the stewards didn’t take kindly to it.

Verstappen was on a flying lap when Hamilton slowed down at Massenet. The Dutch driver had to swerve to avoid him, and his frustration was clear over the radio. Despite the hiccup, both drivers moved on to Q2 and then Q3, securing fifth and fourth spots on the grid for Sunday’s race.

However, the stewards reviewed the incident and decided Hamilton’s actions warranted a penalty. He was dropped three places to seventh on the grid, bumping Verstappen, Isack Hadjar, and Fernando Alonso up the order.

Hamilton isn’t the only one with grid penalties, though. Ollie Bearman is set back 10 places for ignoring a red flag during practice, and Lance Stroll has a pair of penalties. He tangled with Charles Leclerc in Friday’s first practice session and obstructed another driver during qualifying.

The grid is shaping up to be interesting, with these penalties adding an extra layer of excitement to the Monaco Grand Prix.
