Molina evens with Ted Simmons in HR, St. Louis wins

Yadier Molina led off the third inning with a homer for his first RBI of the season, Tommy Edman had a two-run single and another RBI single, and the St. Louis Cardinals swept the stumbling San Francisco Giants 7-1 Thursday night.

Edman singled to back up right-hander Miles Mikolas (2-1) and had another in a four-run seventh inning for St. Louis. Tyler O’Neill had a two-run single in that inning and Juan Yepez had another RBI single.

Mikolas gave up one run on seven hits, struck out three and walked as many in 5 2/3 innings.

The loss for Zack Littell (0-1), who after taking over from starter Mauricio Llovera on the mound, allowed Molina’s first homer this year.

The Puerto Rican’s 172nd home run tied Hall of Famer Ted Simmons’ mark for ninth in the Cardinals’ all-time standings.

For the Cardinals, the Venezuelan Juan Yepez 4-2, with an RBI. Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 4-2, with two runs scored and one RBI.

For the Giants, Venezuelans Wilmer Flores 4-2; Thairo Estrada 3-0, with a run scored. The Mexican Luis González 3-2.
