Mohanlal’s Malayalam film ‘L2: Empuraan’ is heading to OTT after breaking box office records.
The movie, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was released on March 27 and has raked in ₹265.74 crore worldwide in just 22 days.
This impressive feat makes it the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date, with a significant portion of its earnings coming from outside India.
The film’s success is all the more remarkable given the controversy it faced due to some sensitive scenes.
To mitigate the backlash, the makers edited out around three minutes of content.
‘L2: Empuraan’ is a sequel to the 2019 hit film ‘Lucifer’, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The movie’s story picks up where the previous one left off, with Stephen (Mohanlal) handing over power to Jatin (Tovino Thomas), the son of his adoptive father, Ramdas.
However, Jatin’s corruption and attempts to form alliances with communal parties prompt his sister Priyadarshini (Manju Warrier) to enter politics and challenge him.
When Priyadarshini faces trouble, Stephen returns to Kerala to save her.
