Russia Ukraine War: Four months have passed since the war between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian missiles rained bombs across Ukraine on Saturday. At the same time, Russian forces are trying to lay siege to a city in eastern Ukraine. The Governor of the region gave this information today. Earlier, its swift attacks on a nearby town forced Ukrainian troops to retreat after weeks of fierce fighting.

Not only this, missile attacks were also carried out by the Russian army in areas far away from the center of the fighting in the eastern sector. Serhi Haidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, said on social media platform Facebook that the Russian army was trying to lay siege to the city of Lisichansk from the south. The city is located near the city of Svyarodonetsk, the administrative center of the Luhansk region, which has faced frequent Russian attacks and weeks of guerilla warfare between the two sides. Haidai said on Friday that the Ukrainian military had begun to withdraw from Svyarodonetsk.

The population of the city decreased from 10 lakh to 10 thousand.

Military analyst Oleg Zadanov said some troops were moving towards Lisichansk, but the retreating Russian moves to isolate the city were not expected to bring much relief. Most of the industrial city’s area has been devastated by the Russian military’s heavy bombing of the city of Svyarodonetsk. Before the Russian invasion, the city’s population was about one million, which has now come down to just 10 thousand. A large number of people have migrated from the city. Along with about 500 civilians, some Ukrainian soldiers are hiding in the huge Azot chemical factory on the edge of the city.

Svyarodonetsk and Lisichansk have been the focus of the Russian offensive, aimed at capturing and destroying the Ukrainian forces defending the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine, the country’s most capable and combat-skilled section of the armed forces. The Russian military controls about 95 percent of Luhansk province and about half of neighboring Donetsk province. These two regions together make up the Donbass.

Lviv regional governor Maxim Kozitsky said four Russian rockets hit a “military target” in Yaroviv, some 1,000 kilometers to the west. He didn’t give more details about the target, but Yaroviev has a large military base used for training fighters, including foreigners willing to volunteer for Ukraine. That base was attacked by Russian rockets in March, killing 35 people.
