Minister on blackouts: “It is not a generalized situation”

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, assured this Thursday that the blackouts that produced in some communities and neighborhoods they do not correspond to a generalized situation throughout the country.

The official said that these interruptions of the electrical service that are reported in some streets are momentary, saying that it can be caused by an overload in the circuits.

“It is something that one has to reiterate that in some communities or neighborhoods there are some breakdowns and then there may be momentary blackouts, not decisions by the authorities or because there is no generation,” Almonte told the press after leaving the thematic breakfast carried out by the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).

In this context, he explained that the generation park operates correctly, and that it has enough energy to supply at least the demand, while specifying that there is a generation capacity 99% stable.

In addition, he stressed that every day an effort is made to prevent this type of situation from occurring with blackouts.
