Minister of Economy proposes change of vision in water management

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Miguel Ceara Hatton, reaffirmed the need for the country to arrange a comprehensive vision for a change in water managementwhere there is a clear understanding as a human right, natural and economic resource.

Minister Ceara Hatton, who is in charge of coordinating the Water Sector Cabinet, gave the opening remarks for the beginning of the consultation process of the National Commitment for a Water Pact 2021-2036 in the Atlantic region, with the aim of concretize a document through social and public consensus.

The minister indicated that the issue of Water pact is one of the great challenges of society today. Ceara Hatton stated that the main problem is that there is no comprehensive vision of water management in the Dominican Republic.

Said it’s important that all sectors of the country get involvednot only experts, but also organized society, businessmen, political parties, social organizations, in such a way that there is a long-term vision.

The economist and researcher indicated that this is the first consultation at the territorial level in the Atlantic region and will continue throughout the country, in the six large hydrographic basins of the territory to build a consensus with the visits so that society internalizes those purposes and makes their recommendations to integrate them into the Pact for Water document.
