Minister of Economy highlights Japan’s cooperation with the DR in development areas

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Miguel Ceara Hatton, highlighted Japan’s contribution to the Dominican Republic, since currently four cooperation projects are being executed focused on the areas of the environment, local governments, community development, tourism and strengthening institutional.

Ceara Hatton referred to the cooperation of the Asian country in the farewell ceremony of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Japan in the Dominican Republic since 2016, Hiroyuki Makiuchi, organized by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, through the Vice Ministry of International Cooperation.

In the act it was specified that the beginning of diplomatic relations with that country dates from the year 1964, and has remained in constant growth allowing the execution of different programs of technical assistance and financial cooperation.

“We are here through you to recognize your contribution to the country, also to give recognition to your country for all that they have done in cooperation with this same ministry and other State institutions,” said Ceara Hatton, in the activity that had place in the room Padre José Luis Alemán, of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development. The minister expressed to the diplomat his wish for him to have the best of successes.

The diplomat said that he will leave for Japan on October 13 and that the Dominican Republic has been the last destination of his diplomatic career, where he obtained excellent results. Makiuchi has more than 40 years of experience in diplomacy.

Makiuchi recalled his work in the country focused on education and said that his project focused, among other issues, on strengthening the scientific and educational aspect in the country because he understands that they are fundamental to achieve industrial development.

In the same way, his great bet was the installation of the Mathematics Room, which was inaugurated as the “Doctor Jin Akiyama Mathematical Experience Room”, at the Children’s and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD), on December 14 of 2020, and in which through modules you can study mathematics by touching, manipulating, and listening.

In this sense, the Minister of Economy, Ceara Hatton, and the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Olaya Dotel, told the diplomat that they will follow up on the project donated by Akiyama, Director of Science at the University of Tokyo.

Also present at the event were Vice Ministers Alexis Cruz and Yamel Valera; as well as the directors Sandra Lara and Rosanna Arias.
