Minister Carlos Negro convenes urgent mental health meeting after officer, infant die.

A somber cloud hangs over the nation’s law enforcement following a heartbreaking incident. On Friday night, a 28-year-old police officer tragically took her own life. She jumped from her apartment balcony, holding her two-month-old daughter. Both died instantly.

The news prompted an urgent response from Interior Minister Carlos Negro. He released a message on Saturday afternoon, expressing profound sorrow. “We deeply regret what happened to our officer and her small daughter,” Minister Negro wrote on social media. He assured their family and colleagues that support would be unwavering. “We will not leave them alone,” he promised.

The officer had two other daughters, aged three and twelve. They bravely sought help from neighbors after the incident. These young girls are now with relatives. Specialists are providing them with care and support.

Minister Negro quickly convened a critical meeting. He gathered his mental health teams and the Gender Directorate. The goal is clear: “to prevent this from happening again.” This shows a commitment to understanding and addressing the underlying issues.

Support services are already in full swing. The Victim Attention Center, known as CAVID, is working closely with the Police Hospital. They have been helping the surviving daughters and their extended family. The Interior Ministry confirmed this ongoing aid in a statement. Both teams continue to offer constant support, extending their care to the officer’s colleagues as well.
