The Minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Antonio Almonte, When participating in the XVIII Ordinary Assembly of the Ibero-American Association of Geology and Mining Services (ASGMI), he highlighted that a large part of the resources used for power generation depend heavily on geology.
He also highlighted the importance of geology in the development of science, during the ceremony held at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD) with the assistance of Vice President Raquel Peña and the participation of 18 ASGMI member countries.
Minister Almonte said that geology is closely linked to the renewable energyproduced with the wind, the sun and biomass.
noted that geology is fundamental to carry out soil studies and to explore the feasibility of any mining explorationTherefore, this event will serve to exchange ideas with the members of the association to strengthen the geology career and make a more responsible use of the soil and its resources.
“Geology has come to attract the attention of world and national leadership in political, intellectual and economic terms, because it a large part of the essential resources for power generation depends a lot on geologyas well as mineral resources,” Almonte said.
When giving the opening words of the act, engineer Almonte highlighted the preponderant role played by the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Universidad Tecnológica Del Cibao Oriental (UTECO) in the training of scientists and technicians in the geological field, whose academies have been fundamental supports in the mining industry development from Dominican Republic.
In addition to Minister Almonte, they were present at the activity, Raquel Peña, Vice President of the Republic; Vicente Gabaldón, ASGMI general secretary; Flor María de Harp, ASGMI president; Edwin García Cocco, executive director of the National Geological Service; Monsignor Benito Angeles, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo and magnificent rector of the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, and Marilyn Díaz, magnificent rector of the Technological University of Cibao Oriental.
