Understanding the Permanent Driver’s License in CDMX

The city of Mexico is introducing a new type of driver’s license that is valid for a lifetime, eliminating the need for periodic renewals. This permanent driver’s license aims to provide greater comfort to drivers, reduce additional costs, and simplify procedures.

Benefits of the Permanent Driver’s License

The permanent driver’s license offers several benefits to drivers, including:

* Lifetime validity, eliminating the need for periodic renewals
* Reduced bureaucracy and paperwork
* Time and money savings
* A more streamlined process for obtaining and maintaining a driver’s license

However, it’s essential to note that the permanent driver’s license is only available to drivers who meet specific requirements and have a clean driving record.

Eligibility Requirements for the Permanent Driver’s License

To be eligible for the permanent driver’s license, drivers must meet the following requirements:

* Be at least 18 years old
* Have a clean vehicle record, with no serious penalties or infractions
* Hold a valid type A driver’s license
* Pass a theoretical exam based on the Traffic Regulations and the Mobility Law of CDMX (for new applicants)

How to Apply for the Permanent Driver’s License

To apply for the permanent driver’s license, drivers must follow these steps:

1. Generate an appointment through the official platforms of the Ministry of Mobility (Semovi)
2. Choose a location and schedule for the appointment
3. Present the required documentation, including valid identification, proof of address, and a valid driver’s license (if renewing)
4. Pass the theoretical exam (for new applicants)

The appointment system requires a CDMX Key account, which can be created using a CURP, zip code, telephone number, and email address.

Points of Attention for the Permanent License Process

Once the appointment is scheduled, and the necessary documentation is prepared, drivers can visit one of the 35 enabled modules, including Semovi offices, Secretariat of Administration and Finance offices, and express Treasury points. The modules are open from Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A macromodule in the Magdalena Mixihuca is also available, with the same schedule as the other modules.

The demand for appointments is increasing daily, so drivers are encouraged to apply for the permanent driver’s license before the deadline expires on December 31, 2025.

This new system aims to eliminate bureaucracy and corruption in procedures, making life easier for citizens and reducing the time and money spent on obtaining and maintaining a driver’s license.
