Millionaires and celebrities become space tourists

90-year veteran actor William Shatner – Captain Kirk of "Star trek" – is going to become the latest celebrity to travel into space this Wednesday. Other millionaires and celebrities have already done it, or aspire to be next space tourists.

Take me upstairs, Bezos

A Blue Origin rocket, by Jeff Bezos, will make the Canadian Shatner the oldest person to fly into space, surpassing the woman pilot, Wally Funk, 82, who already did so in July also aboard a rocket of the founder of Amazon.

Shatner will experience the absence of gravity, for a few minutes, at a height of 100 km from the Earth, before returning to it in the reusable rocket.

Bezos and his brother Mark had also traveled on the Blue Origin mission in July.

Russia first

Last week, actress Yulia Peresild took off for the International Space Station with a film director to try to narrowly beat the United States in making the first movie ever shot in orbit.

They want to surpass the star of "Mission Impossible"Tom Cruise, who announced his own movie project with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX group last year.

Three day trip

SpaceX put American billionaire Jared Isaacman and three of his guests into orbit last month for three days. It was the first time Musk’s company had sent non-professionals into space.

Vacation on the space station

Axiom Space will send three entrepreneurs for ten days to the International Space Station in January. It will be the first of three such onboard trips planned for SpaceX rockets. Musk is also preparing an orbital trip next year, organized by Space Adventures, for four clients who will pay for the trip.

Fly me to the moon

Japanese millionaire Yusaku Maezawa plans to make a trip around the moon, possibly in 2023, aboard another SpaceX rocket, on a mission called dearMoon.

He hopes to take eight people with him on this first civil lunar mission, and has already invited the director of "La La Land" and "First man", Damien Chazelle.

Chazelle has said that he should ask his wife first.

"Mishap" by Virgin

Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic took part in a test flight to the edge of space in July, aboard a rocket from the company he founded.

But the ship has been grounded ever since due to a "mishap", although it hopes to resume its flights from next year.
