Mika, Chadi, Eric, Araujo... what should Barça do to get them back?

Being a member of the FC Barcelona first team is very expensive, very expensive, and quality young players have to make a living. This season in LaLiga four defenders stand out who have links to the Barça club, either on loan or with a different formula. These are Mika Mármol, Chadi Riad, Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo.

They are all having a great season, but for some the return is easier, for others it is almost impossible. There are up to three different cases.

Mika and economic rights

The most complicated case is that of Mika Mármol, as the left-footed central defender neither belongs to FC Barcelona nor is he on loan from the Barça club. ANDIt is a somewhat unique situation that dates back to when the Egarense was relocated to Andorra in the summer of 2022.

At that time, Barça retained 50 percent of the player’s economic rights and a buyback option for the future. Mika had a great season in the El Principat team (he only missed three games) and last summer García Pimientas UD Las Palmas came knocking on his doors.

The island team bought the 50% that Andorra owned and Barça kept the other half. If the Barça club wanted him to return, he would have to negotiate with the Gran Canarian, who gave him a contract until 2026.

Mika Mármol was an express wish of García Pimienta, who knew him very well from his time at Barça. He makes the most of all his qualities and is a central defender who stands out for not having had more opportunities as a Barça player, because his ball delivery is impeccable, he is also very competitive and a good defender. He only missed one game in the league, the 2-0 defeat at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid – due to suspension.

Betis has everything to keep Chadi

When Barça releases a player, it is about giving him playing time and in this sense, the Barça club was completely right in accepting Real Betis’ proposal. Although it was not yet known at this point that events would take a turn.

First there was Luiz Felipe’s departure to Saudi Arabia after the Spanish summer market closed, and then Marc Bartra’s injury. The result is that Chadi plays almost everything in the league and the Copa del Rey (13 games in total) and works alongside Germán Pezzella in central defense. It is a pity that he was not registered in the Europa League as he would still add more minutes.

Chadi is studying an accelerated master’s degree, which confirmed that he is a powerful left-footed central defender, has good aerial ability and also has the gift of good ball delivery.

Chadi is on loan at Betis until the end of the season, although in his case an undisclosed purchase option was agreed for the green and white club, but, as BeSoccer published some time ago, it is at three million euros for 50% of the footballer’s passport and becomes mandatory upon meeting a number of needs that appear to be met based on his minutes and performance.

Eric Garcia and Julián Araujo are expected

The two players Barça can have next season if they want are Eric Garcia and Julián Araujo. As a sign of their clear intention to ultimately succeed, the Barça club did not include any purchase option in their loan agreements.

Xavi Hernández did not want Eric to leave, but the man from Martorell insisted on looking for minutes and left without even being able to insert the “fear clause”. His option was Míchels Girona. He couldn’t have made a better choice. In the red and white team he shows his qualities that make him a central defender with very good footwork, mobility and positioning. Freed from the pressure he was under at Barça, Eric played 12 games and scored one goal at Villarreal. And a lot was also strengthened on the mentality level. He seems increasingly prepared to return.

Julián Araujo is the only one of the four who does not play as a central defender and has not yet made his debut for Barça in an official game. Gone is the fax that didn’t arrive on time and prevented you from getting on the lawn. But at UD Las Palmas he makes the most of his time, he enjoys the full trust of García Pimienta and has scored two goals in 16 games. He is quick in attack, but also confident and quick in defense. Araujo is increasingly aiming to become Joao Cancelo’s rival at right-back next season.
