Miguel Oliveira carries a heavy feeling. The Portuguese rider believes if he steps away from MotoGP now, he will feel like a puzzle with missing pieces. He shared this raw honesty in a recent interview, speaking openly about his future in the sport.
Oliveira is currently under contract with Yamaha for one more season. However, his first year with Pramac has been a struggle. The results haven’t been good. On top of that, Toprak Razgatlioglu has already been signed, which casts a shadow over Oliveira’s spot. No one knows for sure what will happen, but the chatter around the paddock isn’t looking good for him.
His candid talk came after a Grand Prix in Austria he’d probably rather forget. He finished a disappointing 17th, only just ahead of Jack Miller. After the race, Oliveira sat down with ‘The Race’ for a long chat. He opened up about his career and the tough times he’s faced this season. His words felt almost like a final assessment, a quiet goodbye to the premier class.
“I don’t regret anything I’ve done,” Oliveira told ‘The Race’. “But I feel that if I leave this sport, I will feel incomplete. I believe my skills as a rider are more than what I’ve shown. Some might see this as arrogant, but it’s genuinely how I feel.” He added, “In a sport where you’re constantly measured against others, I truly think I have more to give. But that’s how competition works. It can be very harsh sometimes. That’s the truth.” He explained that in elite racing, “you simply have to perform, you have to ride the bike as fast as possible.”
Despite the challenging situation, Oliveira insisted he isn’t worried about what comes next. “Whatever happens, I will be okay,” he stated firmly. “That’s my main message. I think I’ll be more than fine.”
