Miderec opens the knockout phase of the Christmas Sports Festival

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) opened this Friday afternoon the provincial elimination phase of the successful first Christmas Sports Festival 2021, which has impacted the 158 municipalities of the country with the participation of more than 71,000 athletes.

The Administrative Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin De la Mota, on behalf of the Minister, Francisco Camacho, was in charge of the central words of the act that took place in the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto.

De la Mota exhorted young people to give their best in each of their competitions, and at the same time, he welcomed the intention of Minister Camacho, so that the youth leaned into playing sports and away from misconduct.

The competitions are held with the support of the Government of President Luis Abinader, through the Ministry of Sports, in addition to the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) led by Minister José (Neney) Cabrera.

The Dominican Municipal League (LMD) and the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) also support the event.

The provincial elimination phase concludes on Sunday the 5th of the current month, and is competed in baseball, category U-12, women’s U-16 volleyball, men’s U-23 basketball, women’s 3×3 basketball and open category softball in men’s and women’s.

For his part, Miguel Camacho, honorary technical advisor of the institution, said that the objective of holding the Christmas Sports Festival is to reach every corner of the country so that young people can have easy access to the practice of sports, since it is a indispensable way to build a great society.

Camacho said that the Ministry of Sports is complying with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who spared no effort to support the massive event.

On the other hand, Jorge Ramírez, director of Sports of the National District, specified that in the 32 provinces in which the country is divided, they will be competing simultaneously, remembering that the winning team representing their area will receive prizes of more than 50,000 pesos.

Also participating in the activity were Johnny Armando Peña Feliz, Vice Minister of Maintenance and Construction of Sports Facilities; Mariano Reyes, representing Víctor D ì Aza, general secretary of the Dominican Municipal League; José Manuel Caraballo, councilor of the National District, and Danny Perozo, national director of Leagues and Clubs, among others.

The sports oath was pronounced by the athlete Gray Ramírez, from the Mauricio Báez club.

In the competitions that are held in the District, the Esmeraldo Pérez league, Los Vecinitos League, Los Robles, Los Atléticos de Mota operate in baseball; in volleyball, Club Deportivo y Cultural Naco, Azulito, Varias Luces, Esperanza; in women’s basketball the clubs Mauricio Báez, San Carlos; in men’s basketball, the Rosa Duarte, Renacer, Orlando Martínez and Caliche clubs; in men’s 3×3 basketball club San Lázaro, Ajapro, La Ciénaga and Rosa Duarte, and in women’s 3×3 basketball Mauricio Báez, Águilas de Guachupita and La Chicot compete.
