Microsoft releases an internal tool to enable new Windows 11 features

Thanks to a major blunder by Microsoft, you can now use the secret tool to test Windows 11 features that aren’t public yet staging tool.

The application allows you Enable new Windows 11 features in beta versions of the software.

The official Microsoft app lets you experiment with new Windows features that Microsoft Insiders aren’t willing to try.

In fact, there is already a third-party app that does the same trick. LiveTool is popular with the Windows Insider community because it lets you enable secret Windows 11 features before Microsoft does. The company has been aware of this phenomenon for a long time and allows it in principle.

But Microsoft might not want to release its own internal staging tool for the whole world to use. However, that is exactly what happened earlier this week. Microsoft held a “Bug Bash” event this week, encouraging Windows 11 testers to provide feedback on the bugs that still need to be fixed ahead of the big Windows 11 release in September.

That’s when Twitter user XenoPanther discovered the StagingTool app and found the tool to be similar to ViveTool.

Microsoft has removed its internal tool after accidentally providing a download link. But obviously it’s already too late. StagingTool is now available.

Microsoft often adds new features to the beta versions of Windows 11 without releasing them to users. It’s also something to keep in mind when identifying new Windows 11 features that aren’t even available in beta yet.

Microsoft may have a reason not to give access to beta testers. You may want to test some of these features on a limited basis using your staging tool before rolling them out more widely through the Windows Insider Program. If Microsoft decides a feature isn’t ready for prime time, do you want to test it?
