And the surprise was confirmed. At the Windows 11 SE showcase event, Microsoft also announced its new Surface SE laptop.
Betting on competing with Chrome OS laptops, the American giant has launched its new laptop with the very competitive price of 215 euros.
First Surface in seven years with 16: 9 display
There was speculation that Microsoft might prepare a surprise for the Windows 11 SE operating system presentation event and lo and behold, the speculations were confirmed with the company officially announcing the new Surface SE.
With this launch, Microsoft aims to dethrone the most affordable Chrome OS laptops and, for that reason, the Surface SE hits the market with the competitive price of approximately 215 euros.
Specs-wise, the new laptop is equipped with an 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, which may be a disappointment for some users, but considering its cost, better would not be expected.
This is also the first Surface, in seven years, to feature a 16: 9 aspect ratio, as since 2014 the brand has integrated 3: 2 displays into its Surface series. The new laptop is already powering an Intel Celeron N4020 or N4120 processor paired with 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of eMMC storage.
On the other hand, the front camera includes support for 720p, which is good news for those who have a lot of video conferencing. Surface SE also features a USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio input. It should be noted that this model is the first Surface that does not include the brand’s magnetic charging port.
Replaceable battery, screen, keyboard, and motherboard on Surface SE
But if by the included specifications, there are still doubts that Microsoft is directing this model towards students, the following characteristic confirms the well-defined target audience.
Microsoft will allow schools to replace components inside the new Surface SE, and to that end, the laptop includes easily removable screws that allow the screen, battery, keyboard, and motherboard to be replaced.
This is, by the way, a feature that we can find in the next models of the Surface series, since Microsoft has committed to making its equipment easier to repair by the end of the year 2022.
Microsoft Surface SE will be available in early 2022 in the United States of America, Canada, Japan and Canada for an approximate cost of 215 euros, in a version with 4GB of RAM and 64 of storage. The 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model will be priced at around 280 euros.
