Microsoft has begun rolling out the AI tool Copilot, which was introduced with Windows 11, for Windows 10 computers. It starts with Windows 10 Insider test versions, provided they are up to date with Windows 10 22H2 Home or Pro.
Saving tip: Buy Windows 11 Pro legally for 70 euros instead of 259 euros
Initially only for insider testers
Insider testers can now try out the Copilot in the Release Preview Channel. To do this, you need to enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” option in the “Settings, Update & Security, Windows Update” menu in Windows and check for updates after installing Windows 10 22H2 Build 19045.3757 (KB5032278). Windows Insiders who have made this setting should soon see Copilot displayed, as Microsoft announces in the relevant support document.
Then for all Windows 10 installations
Microsoft will gradually roll out Copilot to all Windows 10 computers over the next few months, including those with final versions of Windows 10. First of all, all non-centrally managed Windows 10 PCs and notebooks will receive Copilot.
Centrally managed Windows 10 machines will follow later
For centrally managed Windows 10 machines used by companies or authorities (Windows 10 Enterprise or Education Version 22H2 and Professional devices), Microsoft wants to include the Copilot in the rollout process in a later deployment phase. For administrators who want to prepare for this, Microsoft recommends this support document.
How to start the copilot
As soon as Copilot is installed, you can start it using the Copilot icon on the right in the taskbar. A chat window will then start in which you can enter your requests. You can use the copilot via the microphone icon within the chat window but also by voice.
restrictions
The Copilot still has some limitations under Windows 10, for example it does not support multi-monitor operation. You will find these restrictions explained here. Unlike Windows 11, Copilot is not available for applications under Windows 10.
As with Windows 11, the same applies to Windows 10: Copilot is not yet available for users in Germany at launch. At least on Windows 11 computers you can activate Copilot with a trick. It is not yet known whether this detour will also work under Windows 10.
