In a series of strategic visits to the Dominican Republic, regional Microsoft representatives urged organizations to carry out digital transformation processes, as they can help boost their operations and make them more efficient.
Tito Arciniega, VP of Enterprise Sales for Microsoft Latin America, explained that digital technology is key to facing an inflationary economy because it allows companies of all sizes to do more with less. “Technology must be implemented in business processes and daily functions in order to reduce costs and maintain market prices, thus counteracting the impact of the complex macroeconomic panorama that the world presents”, he explained.
Likewise, the businessman assured that the next 10 years will be different in the business landscape, and that technology presents unique advantages to navigate the challenges that will arise. “Companies must consider four key elements in this transformation process: the movement to the cloud, data and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and hybrid work. All of this allows us greater efficiency and speed of results, sustainability and a better quality of life for our talent”, he added.
Digital acceleration and opportunities in the Dominican Republic
Without a doubt, the private sector in the Dominican Republic has made great technological advances, a process that has accelerated in the last almost three years. This is confirmed in the recent study “Impact of COVID-19 on MSMEs: digital acceleration and a paradigm shift” from Microsoft, where 85% of micro, small and medium-sized Dominican companies affirmed that the pandemic accelerated the digital transformation process in their businesses. They also highlighted that more than 60% invested in technologies since 2021, prioritizing laptop computers, storage/cloud computing, as well as software for collaborative work and software for video calls.
However, in relation to security, only 54% of Dominican companies claim to have created cybersecurity training for their employees. According to Microsoft, this figure is worrying and should be a priority for 2023, as companies are experiencing an increase in both the volume and sophistication of cyberattacks; cybercrime is now expected to cost the world $10.5 trillion annually by 2025.
“The biggest challenge organizations face is talent, but at the same time that is the biggest opportunity for today’s youth. The sophistication of cyberattacks, the trend of hybrid work and the inevitable transformation of processes will drive the creation of new jobs in strategic sectors around the world, and our workforce must have digital skills to help them face the challenges of today,” Arciniega said.
Microsoft is bringing together technology, threat intelligence, and human expertise to deliver comprehensive security, compliance, and management solutions. With this, it seeks to help companies apply technology to amplify what they can do throughout the organization, so that it can differentiate and build resilience.
