Mickey Mouse will have horror films now that his rights are expiring

After Disney lost the rights to the character, “Mickey Mouse” will no longer be the adorable cartoon mouse, but will star in several horror films.

In the two films in which we will see this character, we will see a masked killer disguised as Mickey or a sadistic mouse tormenting passengers.

Just 24 hours after Disney's original rights to Mickey Mouse expired, the first independent productions were announced.

In this way, the first version, presented in 1928, entered the public domain in the United States and many were already prepared for it.

The first horror production will be a comedy by filmmaker Steven Lamorte.

The story is based on the short film “Steamboat Willie,” in which the Disney mouse made his first appearance in 1928.

Mickey now becomes a sadistic mouse who tortures a group of unsuspecting ferry passengers.

Mickey's horror film

Mickey will also be the star of another slasher horror film titled Mickey's Mouse Trap.

The production tells the story of a group of teenage friends who are terrorized by a murderer who stalks them wearing the mask of the popular mouse.

The first preview of the film was released on YouTube on January 1 by the film's actor and writer Simon Phillips.

It all starts with Alex's 21st birthday, when he is visited by his friends during his night shift at an arcade and has to survive the game that the masked killer disguised as Mickey Mouse wants to play with them.

The film was shot, edited and directed by Jamie Bailey, the screenplay was written by Phillips and the main roles include James Laurin, Nick Biskupek, Mireille Gagné and Damir Kovic.

But the use of Mickey Mouse in a spooky form won't be limited to the films.

The mouse is also part of a “Steamboat Willie”-inspired video game called “Infestation 88,” which features a glorified Mickey Mouse.

This isn't the first time a children's cartoon character has been transformed into evil creatures. The same thing happened with the author of the story “Winnie the Pooh,” AA Milne.

British director Rhys Frake-Waterfield transformed the friendly bear in the 2023 horror film “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” into a killer who wants revenge on his owner Christopher Robin.
