Michelle Williams just dropped some big news about her growing family, giving fans a peek into her wonderfully chaotic life as a mom of four. The acclaimed actress, known for her powerful roles in films like ‘Dying for Sex’ and her early days on ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ recently welcomed her fourth child.
Sources like People magazine reported in April that this discreet arrival, a baby girl, happened earlier this year via surrogate. She is the third child for Williams and her husband, Thomas Kail. Their family already includes son Hart, who is 4 years old, and another child born in 2022, whose name and sex they haven’t shared. Williams also has her 19-year-old daughter, Matilda, with the late Heath Ledger.
Williams, 44, shared more details on the August 18th episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Guest host Tiffany Haddish chatted with the star. Williams took a moment to give a “huge thank you” to her mother, Christine, who was the surrogate.
“This last baby didn’t come out of my body,” the actress openly shared. “The miracle of our little one is thanks to Christine. Thank you, Christine!”
Williams then got candid about the daily juggle of being a working mother. She admitted to feeling “mom guilt” when she has to leave her three youngest children, all under 5 years old, to go to work. “Thanks to Christine, I have three under 5 at home,” she said, quickly adding with a laugh, “Everything is fine and under control. I’m the adult.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. It’s just that I’m so busy,” Williams explained. “I’m trying to find work-life balance, and, you know, I hear a lot of people talking about self-care, and I wonder: ‘When?’ Because I’m a working mother, so I already have the guilt, and I don’t want to take more time from them, but I understand that I need to fill the tank.”
But leave it to Michelle Williams to find a truly unique, and hilarious, solution for sneaking in some much-needed “me time.” Her perfect answer? Mundane bureaucratic errands, like visiting the Social Security office.
“You say, ‘Sorry, darling, but one day you’re going to grow up, you’re going to get a job, you’re going to pay taxes, and you’re going to need a Social Security number for that,'” she explained with a grin.
Williams continued, “I recommend a midday appointment, because there are a few more people, and that way you can claim your rightful place at the end of the line, where they will let you wait in complete silence for at least an hour. … Bring, for example, a nail file and a to-do list, and done, done, done.”
She even joked about extending the experience. “If you want a professional tip, don’t check your paperwork, because you might have to go back,” the actress quipped. “Three kids, that’s three appointments. If I mess up the paperwork, that’s six appointments.”
For other parents looking for more solo time, Williams offered one final, humorous piece of advice: “Get your Real ID. Don’t let it pass you by! It’s an opportunity. Take care of yourself.”
