Micael Sequeira: Sporting Women Target Cup Final Return, Victory

Sporting women’s football coach Micael Sequeira has declared his team’s resolute ambition to win the Portuguese Cup this season, despite facing a lower-tier opponent in an early elimination round.

Sequeira emphasized the special significance of the competition, stating his objective is to reach the final and secure victory. “We want to go as far as possible, preferably to the final and win,” Sequeira told Sporting TV. “It’s no secret that the Portuguese Cup is special. We want to return to Jamor and win.”

His comments came ahead of Sporting’s third-round match against Académica, a team from the fourth national division.

The 52-year-old coach urged his players to maintain “concentration” and “seriousness” against Académica. He described their opponent as an offensive team that “seeks to play” and frequently projects full-backs, requiring “the best Sporting” to succeed.

The match is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) in Coimbra.

Sporting will be without five key players for the upcoming game due to injuries. Brittany Raphino, Samara Lino, Andreia Bravo, Georgia Eaton-Collins, and Miri O’Donnell are all unavailable.
