Micael Sequeira: Sporting Women “Clearly Better,” Earn European Cup Last 16 Spot

Sporting Clube de Portugal’s women’s team has advanced to the round of 16 in the Europe Cup, with coach Micael Sequeira confidently stating his side was “clearly better” than opponents FC Rosengard.

Sequeira expressed immense satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting that achieving progression to the next stage was their “main objective.” He attributed the success to the dedication of both players and staff.

“We were clearly better and go to the round of 16 with all merit,” Sequeira said after the match. “The merit belongs to the players and staff, who worked very hard.”

Sporting secured the win on a pitch described as “traditionally difficult,” demonstrating a serious approach to the game.

The Portuguese side enjoyed a strong first half, scoring a “spectacular goal” through ClĂĄudia Neto to finish the period on top.

FC Rosengard mounted a strong response in the second half, scoring within the first minute, which momentarily unsettled Sporting.

However, Sporting quickly regained control, adding a second goal from Carolina Santiago after an “excellent play.” Rosengard managed to score another goal from a set piece, but it was not enough to prevent Sporting’s progression.

Sequeira acknowledged the demanding schedule, mentioning “many games” and “many trips” leading up to this crucial victory. He described the outcome as “gratifying” for the team.
