The Miami Dolphins officially released linebacker Bradley Chubb on March 11, 2026. The team utilized a post-June 1 designation to process the transaction. The move ends Chubb’s four-season tenure in Miami and initiates a significant roster teardown under the new leadership of Head Coach Jeff Hafley and General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.
The transaction clears substantial salary cap space for the franchise. Chubb was scheduled to carry a $31.2 million cap hit for the 2026 season following a previous contract restructure. By applying the post-June 1 designation, Miami avoids an immediate $23.8 million dead cap hit and generates approximately $20.2 million in 2026 cap savings. The dead cap will now be spread over two seasons.
The Dolphins initially acquired Chubb in a 2022 trade with the Denver Broncos and signed him to a five-year, $110 million extension. Such investments remain common for veteran edge rushers in the current market. During his time with Miami from 2022 to 2025, Chubb played in 41 games and made 40 starts. He recorded 133 tackles, 22.0 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022, won the team’s Nat Moore Community Service Award in 2023, and was named a team captain in 2025.
Chubb suffered a torn ACL, meniscus, and patellar tendon in Week 17 of the 2023 season, causing him to miss the entire 2024 campaign. He returned in 2025, starting all 17 games and leading the team with 8.5 sacks and 20 quarterback hits.
The release occurred concurrently with the departures of wide receiver Tyreek Hill, wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and offensive lineman James Daniels. These combined moves are designed to clear upwards of $56 million in total cap space for the organization.
