Mexico City (BLAZETRENDS).- The opposition Broad Front for Mexico (FAM), made up of the National Action (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution (PRD) parties, presented this Sunday its official registration before the National Electoral Institute (INE) for the presidential elections in June 2024.
As of July 4 and until this Sunday the 9th, the opposition coalition opened the registry for candidates for the presidential candidacy, technically called the person responsible for the construction of the FAM.
A key day ahead of the elections
The registration before the Mexican electoral authority was attended by the presidents of the three parties, Alejandro Moreno (PRI), Jesús Zambrano (PRD) and Marko Cortés (PAN), who came to “formalize the registration that the three opposition parties have, to register a Broad Front for Mexico”
“With this formalization we show that there is no simulation here, we are doing it in accordance with the Constitution, article 41, and the Law of Parties; Mexico requires a new understanding between parties and society,” Cortés told the media after the registration.
“What we seek is to integrate society and opposition parties to build an agenda that can solve the great problems of the country,” added Cortés, while Moreno said that in the integration of the Front and in the process “we are doing very well.”
On the other hand, this Sunday it was reported that the PRD senator, Miguel Ángel Mancera, former head of the Government of Mexico City (2012-2018), registered as a candidate to be responsible for the construction of the Front.
Meanwhile, the former Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, announced that he will not seek the presidential candidacy for the Front and after his decision, the leaders of the PAN, PRI and PRD, and citizen representatives, invited Guajardo to join as person in charge to direct the relationship organization international.
Among the candidates registered for the internal contest are Enrique de la Madrid and Beatriz Paredes, Senator Xóchitl Gálvez and deputies Santiago Creel and Gabriel Quadri.
United against the ruling party in Mexico
The opposition Broad Front for Mexico launched its call last Monday to choose the opposition candidate for the June 2024 presidential election, an internal process that will end on September 3.
The mechanism provides for a first filter consisting of the collection of at least 150,000 citizen signatures, to then debate their proposals in various forums and move on to the last phase, in which a survey will be carried out with the five most prominent Mexicans in the process. of selection.
This mechanism will also be monitored by a transparent and non-partisan committee that will guarantee objectivity and impartiality and that is made up of former INE councillors.
Since June 19, six candidates for the candidacy of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena) began political tours throughout Mexico towards the definition of the ruling party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, a process that will end on September 6.
