Mexican planes bring help to Chile after a fire

Two planes from the Mexican Ministry of Defense landed in Santiago yesterday with more than 26 tons of humanitarian aid for the people of that country affected by the forest fires that are ravaging the areas of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso.

The Chilean government emphasized that the support of brigade members in fighting forest fires, if necessary, will be more useful in a second phase as the situation develops,” explained our country’s Foreign Ministry.

Most of the fire spread in the coastal region of Valparaíso, home to nearly a million residents, the seat of Congress and one of the country’s most important ports.

In a message to the nation, Boric added that he had made the decision to maintain the curfew and increase the military presence in the affected areas.

The mayor of Viña del Mar, Macarena Ripamonti, and the governor of the Valparaíso region, Rodrigo Mundaca, reported that several hundred people were reported missing.
