A new generation of young baseball players achieves their dream of belonging to a Major League team, by being part of the New York Mets, in the signing of international prospects 2023.
In search of a better future, this Sunday, January 15, 18 athletes managed to agree with the Mets, with bonuses that exceed one million dollars, with the Venezuelan receiver, Dairson Gutiérrez, being the one with the highest amount with US$1,900,000.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan short stop Christopher Larez reached the figure of US$1,400,000; Dominican outfielder Anthony Baptist agreed for $1,100,000, and left-handed pitcher Daviel Hurtado of Cuba reached a deal for $500,000.
“It is an immense satisfaction for us the opportunity that we offer these youngsters, who are now climbing another rung on their way to the Major Leagues. Our organization values the great effort they make to achieve that dream of every athlete,” said Juan Henderson, Director of Operations for the New York Mets Academy for Latin America and the Caribbean, congratulating the talented prospects.
At the ceremony held at the Academy of the Major League Baseball (MLB) team, located on Jatubey highway, Boca Chica municipality, outfielders Heriberto Rincón, Enderson Asencio, Alex Acosta and Reinel Díaz also signed with the team; catchers Marcos Castillo, son of the former player of the same position in the Major Leagues, Alberto Castillo; and Julio Zayas, who in addition to catching plays third base. Also the Venezuelan receiver Julián Hernández.
Similarly, shortstops Branny De Óleo and Vladi Gómez; pitchers Ramón Henríquez (D), Osiris Calvo (Z), Luis Ceballos (D) and Misael López (Z), and third baseman Daris Cordero.
The activity was attended by distinguished personalities and Mets executives such as Tommy Tanous, vice president of International Scouting and the United States, and Steve Barningham, International Scouting director.
In addition, Moisés de La Mota, Scouting supervisor in Latin America, as well as International Scouts from the organization, academy employees and family members.
